SocialScalr vs Octopus CRM

Octopus CRM is one of the cheapest LinkedIn outreach Chrome extensions on the market. Same browser-extension architecture as SocialScalr, similar safety profile, much lower price - and a much narrower feature set. If you only need core LinkedIn outreach without the content, intel, or modern dashboard features, Octopus is hard to beat on price.

By · · Disclosure: I run SocialScalr. I do not have a paid Octopus CRM account at the time of writing.

Where Octopus CRM wins

1. Price. $9.99/month Starter and $39.99/month Unlimited are below SocialScalr's $29 entry. For solo operators on a budget who just need the core LinkedIn invite + follow-up loop, Octopus is materially cheaper.

2. Simplicity. The UI is narrow on purpose - fewer features, fewer decisions, faster onboarding for non-technical users.

3. Long track record. Octopus has been around since 2018 with a stable customer base. Plenty of community knowledge.

Where SocialScalr wins

1. Feature depth. SocialScalr ships things Octopus simply doesn't have: Watchtower competitive intel, AI personaliser, full content scheduler, banner creator, profile photo tool, in-app live activity feed, per-lead markdown notes with reminders, smart send-time analyser, real REST API + HMAC-signed webhooks, two-factor authentication, account audit log, webhook delivery viewer, CSV import wizard, dark mode, PWA support, realtime UI updates. The product surface is 4-5x larger.

2. Agency pricing. $149/month for 10 seats vs $400/month for 10 Octopus Unlimited seats. SocialScalr's team math is dramatically better.

3. Permanent free tier. Try the full dashboard before paying. Octopus only ships a trial.

4. Modern dashboard. SocialScalr's UI is built for operators who live in the tool 60+ minutes per day - keyboard shortcuts, realtime updates, dark mode, saved filters, bulk actions, CSV export. Octopus dashboard hasn't been meaningfully redesigned in years.

5. Outbound webhooks. Pipe leads into HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, or Slack via HMAC-signed webhooks. Octopus relies on Zapier integration which is slower and more brittle.

When to pick which

Pick Octopus CRM if: you're a solo operator on the tightest budget, you only need the core LinkedIn invite + 4-step follow-up loop, you don't need content tools or competitive intel, or you want a simpler narrower tool with less to learn.

Pick SocialScalr if: you want a full LinkedIn operating system (outreach + content + competitive intel + CRM) in one tool, you need real API/webhook integration with other systems, you want team pricing that doesn't scale linearly, or you value modern dashboard features (dark mode, realtime, keyboard shortcuts, audit log, 2FA).

The honest framing

Octopus CRM is a competent narrow tool. SocialScalr is a broader product priced at a tier above. If your needs are narrow, Octopus's narrowness is a feature, not a bug. If your needs are broader, the price difference dissolves quickly - one of SocialScalr's bundled features (say, the content scheduler) replaces a $15-30/month standalone tool you'd otherwise buy on top of Octopus.
