Architecture (the most important decision)

The single biggest split in this category is browser-resident vs cloud. Everything else (price, features, UX) flows downstream.

Browser-resident (extension or desktop app): activity originates from your real browser session. LinkedIn sees your real IP, your real user agent, your real cookies. Tools: SocialScalr, Dux-Soup, Waalaxy, Linked Helper, Octopus CRM. Safer. Requires your computer / browser to be open during sending windows.

Cloud: activity originates from the vendor's datacenter. Always-on, doesn't need your computer running, easier for managing non-technical clients. Tools: Expandi, Lemlist, MeetAlfred, Phantombuster, Salesflow, HeyReach. Higher long-term risk - LinkedIn's anti-abuse improvements are more likely to detect cloud patterns than real-browser activity.

Neither is wrong. The right answer depends on whether you value safety (browser) or operational simplicity (cloud).

Pick by use case

Solo founder, B2B SaaS

SocialScalr Pro or Linked Helper Pro

Browser-resident, modern UX, conservative pacing. SocialScalr Pro at $49/mo includes Watchtower competitive intel and AI personaliser; Linked Helper Pro at $45/mo is leaner.

Cheapest single seat

Octopus CRM or Linked Helper Standard

$9.99-$15/mo for the basic invite + sequence loop. Skip these if you want content tools, competitive intel, or modern dashboard UX.

Agency, 5+ accounts

SocialScalr Agency or HeyReach

SocialScalr at $149/mo for 10 seats is dramatically cheaper. HeyReach at ~$599/mo for 10 accounts has always-on cloud. Pick based on whether your clients are technical.

Multichannel (LI + email)

Lemlist or Waalaxy

Bundled email finder + multichannel sequences in one tool. Lemlist if email is your primary channel; Waalaxy if LinkedIn is primary with email as a fallback.

Done-for-you

Salesflow

Managed-service tier where their team writes copy and runs day-to-day. Premium pricing reflects the labor. Pick if you don't have in-house operator capacity.

Recruiting agency

SocialScalr Agency or HeyReach

Both built for multi-account workflows. SocialScalr ships per-recruiter caps + isolation; HeyReach ships always-on cloud. See our recruiting agency configuration.

Job seeker

SocialScalr Starter

2-3 months of subscription at $29/mo. Conservative volumes, hand-written notes to hiring managers. See the job seeker playbook.

Coaches and creators

SocialScalr Pro

Content scheduler + outreach in one tool. The 3-week soft-sell after content exposure. See the coaches playbook.

General automation

Phantombuster

Platform with 100+ "Phantoms" for everything from LinkedIn to Twitter to Instagram to Google. Builders, not operators. If you want one tool for many channels.

Manual / no tool

Under 50 invites/week

If you're sending under 50 hand-written invites per week and don't need a CRM, you may not need a tool at all. See SocialScalr vs manual outreach.

The criteria we'd use to choose, in order

  1. Safety architecture. Browser-resident first, cloud only if always-on is critical.
  2. Total seat cost. Per-seat pricing or flat? Multi-seat math compounds fast.
  3. Bundled vs separate tools. Will you also need content scheduling, banner creator, competitive intel? Buying separate tools dilutes savings.
  4. Integration depth. Real REST API + HMAC webhooks beats "available on Zapier".
  5. Modern dashboard UX. If you'll spend 60+ min/day in the tool, the UX gap between 2018-era tools and 2026-era tools is real.
  6. Trust and longevity. Newer tools innovate faster but carry more "will they be around in 2 years" risk. Older tools are safer but innovate slower.
  7. Pricing transparency. Flat pricing beats action-credit pools that get expensive at scale.

What we'd avoid

For pricing comparisons specifically

See our pricing page for SocialScalr's current plans. Most competitors update pricing 2-4 times per year; the numbers above are accurate as of May 2026 but worth double-checking before committing.

Honest closing

We built SocialScalr because we thought the existing tools fell short in specific ways - especially on agency pricing, modern UX, content tools, and integration depth. We didn't build it because every other tool is bad. Many of the tools above are competent at what they do; the right answer depends on your specific use case. Use the pick-by-use-case grid above and pick the tool that fits, even if it isn't us.
